Change your main number

Swap your main business number for another one, for example a local number, and keep calls and texts working.

Your main number is the number you text from and the caller ID customers see. If the number ServFlo picked for you isn't local, or you'd like a different one, you can change it. The new number takes over texts and calls, rings the same people, and your business phone in emails, texts and your website draft follows.

Change it

Changing your number buys a new number (billed monthly) and can release your old one, which can't be undone. Customers will see the new number on every text.

Go to Settings → Messaging → Texting. (Or in Settings → Phone → Numbers, open your main number's Actions menu and choose Change main number.)

Find Change my main number.

Click Find local numbers to see numbers near your business address, nearest first. The list says how local they are, for example In your ZIP code or Within 50 miles of your business. Or search by area code.

Next to the number you want, click Use this number.

Under Your old number, choose what happens to it:

  • Release it if nothing else uses it (the default),
  • Keep it (it keeps ringing you), or
  • Release it.

Read the confirmation, which shows what changes and what it costs, and click Change number.

What changes

  • Texts and calls go out from the new number, and it rings the same ring group and plays the same menu as the old one.
  • Your business phone in emails, texts and your website draft changes to the new number where it showed the old one. If you have a published website, publish it again so visitors see the new number.
  • If you keep the old number, it becomes an Other number and keeps ringing you the same way.

When the old number is kept

With the default choice, ServFlo keeps the old number on your account when something still uses it:

  • your approved texting registration names it;
  • it rings a group or plays a menu;
  • it's used for call tracking;
  • it has calls.

A kept number costs its monthly price until you release it in Settings → Phone.

Things to know

  • Texting registration. If your texting registration is still under review, wait for the decision before changing your number. If you registered as a sole proprietor, carriers register the new number in the background, usually within hours; texts may be delayed meanwhile.
  • Cost. Numbers are billed by the month with no refund for a released one, so this month's bill may include about one extra month for a number. The confirmation shows the amount.
  • Free trial. During a trial you can change your number once, and the old number is released.
