Dumpster rentals

Billing and overages

How ServFlo bills a rental up front, counts the extra days and weight, and makes the final bill.

Up front

When you take the order, ServFlo makes an invoice for the rental price (and the street permit, if any). Send it like any invoice. You can turn this off in Settings → Dumpster rentals; then everything is billed at the end.

How days and weight are counted

  • Days run from the drop-off to the pickup. A dumpster dropped on Monday and picked up the next Monday is 7 days.
  • Weight is the total of the rental's dump tickets, to the hundredth of a ton.

Every day and ton past what the size includes is billed at the size's extra price. The rental page shows the running total so far.

The final bill

After the pickup and its dump ticket, open the rental and click Close and bill. ServFlo makes one invoice with:

  • the extra days and the extra tons;
  • every extra charge not billed yet (swap fees, trip fees, mattresses, tires);
  • the fuel and environmental fee, if you use one;
  • the rental price, if it wasn't billed up front.

Review and send it like any invoice.

ServFlo won't close a rental without the pickup's dump ticket, since the weight is billed. If there really is no ticket, you can close it without one.

Long rentals

For a dumpster that stays out for months, turn on Bill every period on the rental. Then ServFlo makes a draft invoice for the extra days so far (and any extra charges) every 30 days on its own. To bill right away, click Bill this period. The final bill leaves out what was already billed.

Example

A 20 yard dumpster at $425 for 7 days and 3 tons, $12 per extra day, $65 per extra ton, out for 10 days with 4.2 tons dumped and one swap:

LineAmount
Rental (up front)$425.00
3 extra days$36.00
1.2 extra tons$78.00
Swap fee$95.00
